HP Touchpad to Launch on July 1st

Hewlett-Packard announced that its Wi-Fi model tablet the TouchPad will be land in U.S. markets on the 1st of July. The device can furthermore pose as a threat to the Apple iPad and iPad 2.

But let us have a look at the specs first. HP will ship its 16GB TouchPads in the U.S. with a price tag of $499 and a 32GB model for $599. The prices are rather similar to those of Apple’s iPad and hence might be a suitable option for consumers. But then again consumers wouldn’t want to get a Touchpad if for the same price they can purchase the legendary iPad. HP will begin to take preorders in the U.S. and Europe starting June 19.

On an international basis the Touchpad will be introduced in U.K., Canada, Ireland, France and Germany by mid-July, whereas Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore will get the TouchPad later this year.

As for the specs it is of nearly of exact power as the iPad but running on HP’s WebOS which is different and unique in many ways from iOS there might be some competition as well. The OS is sharp and different again like the RIM PlayBook. HP moreover has a good retail backup with its products being sold in Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, OfficeMax, Amazon.com, Fry’s and many others. The enterprise is again a focus for HP such as the PlayBook and it aims to use it variety of features including price to give it the boost needed to enter in competition against the iPad.
